In 2005, CAIM and the Department of Biomedical Informatics launched a consulting service aimed primarily at small companies who need rapid access to high-level specialists for short, well-defined projects where a proposal-based extended effort may not be appropriate. Columbia University Biomedical Informatics Consultants (CUBIC) provides help to companies for studies requiring one person or a small group. CUBIC is an alternate path for companies to access Columbia expertise.
